What is intelligence? How did we become so advanced as beings on this planet?

This semester in English Mr. Schauble unfolded an idea onto me. At the young stages of our lives, someone just decided to tell us what and which “colors” were which. How do we know that the color we see is the same as the colors they see?

For as long as we know, we have been fed information. We are continuously told what to do with our lives and how to make them better. One of the examples is school. Why do we have to go to school? What is the purpose of having to learn things in a set environment? For five days of the week, students are obligated to go to school and learn because we are told. Whether its math, science, English, or Social Studies, average students are in their seats at around 8:00 with their heads in the books. Constantly we the students are told about things like college and graduation. But why should we? Every day in school we do what we are told. And that’s the only reason why. We are told to go to school. We are told to do our homework. So many things in this world are told to us.

We have been given a gift. The gift of speech has made the human civilization grow and prosper. The reason we have been able to survive this long is because of our abilities. The reason for speech is so that things are more organized. With a way of communicating, we are able to better our lives and come up with even more break through technology. The world we live in has become far greater than past times. We humans have been given the gift of intelligence.

An Interview With Myself

Q: So how is your Common Place Book going?
A: It’s going ok. It’s pretty decent.
Q: What do you find most interesting about the Common Place Book?
A: Well, I guess I like it because I can just put random things in there. Like things that interest me.
Q: You put things other than assignments?
A: Uh huh. I just put in anything that interests me. I guess I just use it as a personal paste book. I found out that it was pretty fun.
Q: That’s a pretty good idea, but do you think u fulfill the English requirements for it?
A: I think so. I actually spend a good amount of time on it. And the whole idea about the common place book was to have a place to put things. I found that I really enjoy it. I can put in comics, pictures, assignments and other notes and stuff from class.
Q: What’s the thing you hate the most when it comes to your CPB?
A: Writing in it everyday and just keeping it updated is a challenge.
Q: Why do you have trouble writing in it everyday?
A: Sometimes I have too much homework and I'm busy from sports. Those days are just miserable to start the CPB. First you have to find out what to write and then you have to write it and by the time you actually find something to write about, you really don’t feel like doing it anymore.
Q: Do you write in it everyday?
A: No. I’m still challenged by it. I know I should, but its just one of those things that I have a hard time doing.
Q: Why do you think it’s so hard?
A: Well first off I’m not exactly the kind of person to read every night before I go to bed. I usually don’t write in anything unless I have to turn it in. My skills in English are slightly limited. I guess you can say that I don’t like English.
Q: Why don’t you just write about something you like? You do know it doesn’t have to do something with English right? Just find something you like and then let your self get lost in it.
A: I try to do that, but I can’t write about it. I hate English assignments. Things like this are hard for me.
Q: I think Mr. Schauble gave us this assignment so we could just have a safe place to write thoughts down and anything else cool. One thing you could try to do could be not to get so wound up in the idea of it being an assignment. Just do it for fun
A: I guess I can try that. Thanks
